The contractor finished the final asphalt pavement coat on Monday, November 12th. Remaining roadway work includes minor landscaping, traffic signal installation, and sidewalk restoration work.
The contractor started testing the hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems to ensure proper operation and will continue testing next week. The bridge will lower and rise multiple times during this testing phase. When all tests have passed the Wells Street Bridge will open to pedestrians and motorists, tentatively scheduled by the end of the month. Due to the colder than normal weather some project work will be completed next spring. This work includes concrete staining of the piers under the bridge and a polymer overlay on the bridge deck. Short-term disruptions to traffic will occur during this operation in the spring.
All work is weather dependent.
Starting on November 15 the main entrance of Bonnies South Lot (Lots of Luck) will be closed through the weekend while the city repairs the sidewalk. Please use the alley entrance off of Wells St. to enter/exit the lot. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to operations manager Rob Bartlett at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The North Lot will only be accessible from Old World Third Street and down the alley and around into the parking lot.
Milling and asphalt of the roadway east of the Milwaukee River to North Water Street will be completed in the near future. Exact date has not been determined at this time. We anticipate the final asphalt coating will be done during the week of November 12th.
Please stay tuned for future updates.
