PrEP is short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is an HIV prevention strategy for people who are at very high risk for HIV infection. People using PrEP take an HIV medication every day to help prevent infection. PrEP should always be used as part of your overall HIV prevention strategy such as condoms.
PrEP is a recommended HIV prevention tool for you if:
Should any of these instances apply to you, please contact ARCW today to learn more about PrEP.
Getting PrEP through the ARCW PrEP Clinic is simple. Start by taking an HIV test – PrEP can only be used with people who are confirmed to not have HIV. After your test results are confirmed you will receive a health exam from an ARCW provider. Your provider will then give you a prescription for PrEP for you to get filled through the ARCW Pharmacy or pharmacy of your choosing. With this you must commit to ongoing health care for PrEP and other sexual health needs. People using PrEP need to visit their doctor every 3 months to continue PrEP treatment. ARCW can help you access PrEP even if you have no insurance or have high co-pays.
ARCW is offering PrEP at the Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay and Kenosha offices.
